Powerful, authentic and charming Patti
The Fillmore was vibrating with energy and excitement to see our adored Patti. The crowd was friendly and kindly. We were nervously jocular about "defensible space" as we stood shoulder to shoulder in front of the stage in anticipation.
Then came Ray...her amazing guitarist/songwriter. OMG...as good as he was it was not the time for that moody, subdued playing. After the first couple, people looked at each other and I heard words like "dirge", "unclear on what an opening act is," etc. We didn't let the buzz kill last, tho, and all was stellar when PS appeared. I love how she looks at us all, and talks to us. Its like...she can do what she wants and we will love it. Even the Lord's Prayer, and readings. If it means something to her, it means something to me. Her voice was so meaningful, sincere and intensely real. What we needed at this difficult time.
